China (traditional: 中國; simplified: 中国; pinyin: zhōngguó, «central state»)
China – is a country which is considered to be the most ancient civilization of East Asia. Furthermore, China united around itself a large number of different states. Its history comprises more than 6 thousands years.
This historical and cultural region continues to steadily hold a leading position as one of the world centers and has a significant impact on neighboring states at the current stage of societal development.
China has different names in every language. These are the main and most interesting among them:
- The very name «China» is of the Latin origin. It was borrowed by many European languages and most probably came from the name of the Chinese Qin dynasty (221-206 BC).
- The name «Zhongguo» had Chinese people by themselves for their country. The term had diverse cultural and political subtext depending on the era.
- There is also another version «Seres» which is the Greek name of China. It was used by the Greeks and Romans in ancient times. It means «silk» or «country of silk».
China has a long and ceaseless civilizational history and one of the oldest and most complicated writing systems. Up to the 19th century it was one of the leading world countries and the main cultural center. This powerful state is the birthplace of many technical inventions that have changed the fate of mankind (paper, compass, seismograph, speedometer, gunpowder and printing etc.).
Moreover, China currently holds a leading position in the production of the cars. This is the place where the largest number of cars in the world is not only sold, but also produced (more than 19 million units per year).
The native peoples and citizens of China have highly affable mentality. Remember how the famous Chinese saying sounds «Be strict to yourself and gentle to others. Thus you will protect yourself from human hostility».
